The Taunton to Chard
canal (A1 to R5) was opened in 1841 and closed in 1867. During WW2 it formed part of the
defence line and many of the concrete structures are still dotted along its length.
The Taunton to Chard railway line (A1 to J20) was opened in 1866.
The station was not opened until 1871 and both were closed in 1962.
Thorn monument (7I) has some interesting history.
Thorn Clump (11N) is clearly visable on both the photo and
thesurrounding countryside.
Towards the bottom right of the photo you can see the roads to
North Curry, Langport and Chard.
The Nags Head (14J) has always
been a stop off point. |
